Home : News : OS Releases and Phidgeting with Servos

Yes, after all the excitement, it's finally here - the most exciting operating system release this year (arguably for several years). It's not quite ready for the prime time yet and careful businesses and home users will be putting off the upgrade for a bit longer, but finally early adopters who don't mind getting their fingers burned a little for the thrill of peering over the horizon can get their hands on Haiku! (Eh, what did you think I was talking about? Ubuntu 9.10?). Bearing in mind the newly available release is alpha 1, it's very polished and easy to get to know, but more because I love the OS than because I think anyone needs a guide, I've written one.

Also, today Lereco saw its first hardware purchase - a servo controller from Phidgets (thanks Active Robots). I've thrown together a quick guide to setting this up on Ubuntu (probably applicable to most modern GNU/Linuxen) in case anyone's interested. More details on programming with this (and the Pidgets Interface Kit) will follow shortly.
