Well, it's been a while since my last update (too long) and I have to guiltily admit that I still don't have any substantial stuff to report. I've been working on the revamped radicalabacus.org and putting in some hours on Lereco, but nothing to show for it here yet, sorry. Once the new site's up, updates should come in thick and fast; the new version's much more focused on rapid and easy updates from my perspective than the clunky old thing I'm using now (Argen, if that advert sold it to you, heh). I won't bore you with the details but it's a CodeIgniter based, properly dynamic PHP web application, but it's grown into a little more than a personal home page and I expect at least bits and pieces of it will be worth redistributing, though maybe not right from the first version that's usable for me. It's a sort of a collaborative work environment that should be useful for groups of people doing all sorts of work that involve planning and progressing through distinct tasks, like handling incidents on a helpdesk or more projecty stuff like what I do.
Anyway, I said I wouldn't bore you with the details, so what else?
The most exciting thing, for me anyway, is that I've been revising Maths ... I'm off back to The University of Glasgow in September this year to finish my Computing Science degree. Since I was studying for joint honours with Psychology the first time around, I need to spend my first year back picking up some Computing modules so I've got enough credits to get into Single Honours Computing in 2011.
I'm hoping to keep my current job, or something like it, on a part-time basis but I'll just have to wait and see when I find out what my Uni timetable's going to look like. It'll be a bit of a wrench if I have to leave my current position because, well, I love it - I never intended to take a break from my degree anything like this long, but it's really hard to choose to leave a job doing work you enjoy on systems you like with great people for a company you care about. A few people have asked me why I've made this decision, and really it's just that I never meant to pull out of University permanently and I feel like there are real gaps in my knowledge on a subject I care deeply about and I really feel like I need to fill those gaps in.
So, the upshot of all this is I'm going to have to sell up my vehicles, leave my flat at the end of my lease and move into a bedsit in the hope I can scrape by for my part time year to preserve my two remaining years of funding for Honours. Expect to see half my wordly belongs (actually, seriously, probably more than half) on eBay over the next few weeks. I'll probably do what I usually do and post some extra details about the vehicles here shortly, so if you're interested in a 10-year-old Honda Civic (1.4 SOHC; 120-odd thousand miles (timing belt allegedly replaced but I haven't seen it myself); technically a hatchback, but it's the saloon-shaped variant; 10 CD changer and dysfunctional (but probably reperable) air con) or a 1999 Honda CD250U (good solid general condition but I'd love it to be someone's rebuild project; it's going to be a beautiful little classic if someone has some time and just a little money to spend, although it absolutely is a runner right now), or indeed an avalanche of random tools, old computer equipment and random bits and pieces do check back. I'll be FreeShareing at least a few things as well I suspect.
